Movement & Physical Theatre

“ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS”

Geared towards: Adults or youth (12 – 18 years)
Teachers: Tjarda van Straten and Nadîja Broekhart

Physical theatre is a form of theatre in which the performer tells a story through body language. It excludes spoken word and is very visually orientated.
We all are familiar with movement, but what can you do with it and what does it accomplish when you use a single movement in different ways.  You are the one that gives life to movement! No hocus pocus but applicable knowledge including useful tips en playful exercises will all be part of the lessons. This way you will learn how to move from within and will be able to tell your story excluding words… Starting point for exercises are contemporary, recognizable situations which will be blown up.

During the workshops/lessons we will be working on body awareness. Through exercises in where your own input is key, we make short sketches. We will be working in small groups and will “show and tell” regularly. This contributes to becoming aware of what body language can achieve. In addition we will work on optimizing usage of space, movement qualities, improvisation and performing while facing an audience. Experience is not necessary, but you do need some enthusiasm and guts!
